Lalith Bhupendra Kotelawala, the founding chairman of Seylan Bank and the former head of Ceylinco Consolidated, passed away at the age of 84.

He went away while being treated at a Colombo private hospital. When Kotelawala succeeded his father as head of Ceylinco Consolidated in the 1960s, he expanded the company into new industries like banking, non-banking finance, investment banking, housing and property development, travel and leisure, communication and information technology, education and healthcare, and microfinance. Three years after being hurt in an LTTE attack in 1996, he established a peace movement in Sri Lanka.
