Lakewood Church Shooting: 2 injured, including a child, armed female suspect killed

A tragic incident unfolded at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church on Sunday February 11, 2024, leaving two individuals wounded and the suspect dead, as per Texas authorities.

Police chief Troy Finner revealed during a press briefing that the shooting commenced at 1:53 p.m., coinciding with the scheduled start of the Spanish language service.

The suspect, identified as a woman, entered the premises armed with a long rifle, clad in a trench coat and carrying a backpack, accompanied by a small child, approximately 4 to 5 years old, according to Finner.

Upon opening fire, off-duty officers swiftly intervened, engaging the assailant and exchanging gunfire, resulting in her demise at the scene. Among the casualties were a 57-year-old man, sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg, and the child, who remains in critical condition.

Authorities reassured the public that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat.

Senior pastor Joel Osteen, expressing his devastation during the press conference, extended gratitude to law enforcement while emphasizing faith in divine control amidst the inexplicable tragedy.
