As a result of a horrific bike accident that nearly killed him, Jack McKinney’s coaching career was severely hampered. McKinney died on September 25, 2018, at the age of 83, according to reports.

According to ESPN, while the actual cause of death was never revealed, it was tied to his bike accident, which left him with memory loss and other neurological disorders.
McKinney was an American college and NBA coach who was born on July 13, 1935.

He coached for a variety of teams throughout his career, including the Portland Trail Blazers, Kansas City Kings, and Indiana Pacers, for whom he was voted NBA Coach of the Year in 1981.
In 1979, McKinney was hired as the coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, but he only lasted 13 games after being injured in a bicycle accident that left him in a coma.
He earned a degree and played basketball at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before his professional career.
