Lagos Government Boosts Sports Development with Signing of 60 New Coaches

Lekan Fatodu, the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, has disclosed the hiring of 60 additional coaches across different sports categories to enhance the nurturing of sports talents in the state.

This initiative is reported to be a component of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to fostering athletic talent and advancing sporting achievements within the state.

The recently appointed coaches, chosen for their expertise and proven achievements, are anticipated to significantly contribute to improving athlete performance, identifying and developing emerging talents, and fostering a culture of excellence within the sporting community of Lagos State.

Fatodu, announcing the appointment of the new sports coaches at the Lagos State Sports Commission Complex in Surulere, underscored the significance of their recruitment, stating that the commission is pleased to welcome these coaches who will bring extensive experience and passion to sports in Lagos State.

“Their expertise will be instrumental in achieving our goals of elevating athlete performance and expanding our sports initiatives at the grassroots,” he stated.

He highlighted that the coaches would undergo thorough evaluation based on various criteria, such as success rates in competitions, improvements in athlete performance, talent discovery and recruitment, athlete engagement and retention, development of grassroots programs, and their own professional growth.

“We believe in rewarding excellence and creating an environment that supports continuous growth and innovation. In addition to their salaries, our best-performing coaches will receive the Director General’s Tournament Excellence Bonus,” Fatodu added.

Confirming the government’s commitment to building a robust framework for sports development, Lekan emphasized that by rewarding excellence, the commission aims to foster a culture of ongoing enhancement and consistent achievement. This initiative is set to bolster Lagos State’s performance in both national and international competitions.

While highlighting that the Lagos State Sports Commission is dedicated to offering continuous training and growth opportunities to its coaches, aimed at cultivating a strong sports environment that identifies and nurtures talent, Fatodu revealed that the commission is focused on retaining and developing identified talent to enable them to achieve their utmost potential and excel in top-tier competitions.

“This includes workshops, seminars, and access to cutting-edge sports science and coaching methodologies. These initiatives are part of the Commission’s strategy to ensure that Lagos State remains at the forefront of sports innovation and excellence in Nigeria,” he stated.

Hiring these 60 new coaches is a key component of the Lagos State Sports Commission’s comprehensive strategy to improve the caliber and expand the scope of its sports initiatives.

Through committed coaches, performance assessments, and acknowledgment initiatives, the LSSC is ready to empower athletes, raise the bar for sporting standards, and cement Lagos’ status as a prominent figure in Nigerian and African sports.
