Concerning her education, Marissa Powell attended Skyline High School in Salt Lake City, UT, where she was active in volleyball. She earned a scholarship to Westminster College to play college ball in 2010.

Marissa Powell later transferred to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, after one season. There she won the Miss Utah contest in 2013, eventually pushing her to the national competition, Miss USA.

At Brigham Young University, Marissa Powell met Kyle Van Noy and the two started dating in 2011.

Kyle Van Noy and Marissa Powell tied the knot in 2014. Van Noy proposed to Marrisa in December 2013. The two are parents of a son Trae Legend, and a daughter Giavanna Monnae.
