On April 7, 2017, against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Freeland made his major league debut for the Rockies and earned his first win. In addition, he had his first major league hit, a single.

His appearance was the first time in 51 years that a starting pitcher made his Major League debut “in his team’s home opener in the state in which he was born,” since Chuck Dobson did so for the Kansas City Athletics in 1966.

In 2022, Freeland went 9-11 with a 4.63 ERA in 31 starts covering 174.2 innings, leading the majors in sacrifice flies allowed with nine and triples allowed with eight.  Batters also had the highest on-base percentage against him (.342) of any MLB-qualified pitcher.
