The unionized staff of STC have opposed the appointment of any individual as Deputy Managing Director in charge of Operations. They argue that the company’s most urgent need at this time is more buses, not new appointments.

A section of a petition sent to the Board Chairman of the company explained, “ISTC has operated without a Deputy Managing Director for a considerable period, suggesting that reducing the number of deputy managing directors will not adversely affect our operations.”

Dr. Kwabena Donkor expressed his concerns during an interview on ‘Morning Starr’ with Francis Abban. He questioned the rationale behind appointing multiple MDs for a struggling entity like STC.

“The STC situation is most unfortunate. STC is not a blue-chip company; it is a struggling medium-sized state-owned company. Therefore, it beats my imagination why such a struggling medium-sized company should even have deputy MDs, let alone three,” Dr. Donkor stated.

He emphasized the financial implications of such appointments, highlighting the high non-salary costs associated with additional management positions.

Dr. Donkor stressed the need for effective commercial management, questioning how a medium-sized company like STC could justify having three deputy managing directors.

In conclusion, Dr. Kwabena Donkor urged for a reevaluation of the decision-making process behind the appointments, emphasizing the importance of efficient resource allocation and management in state-owned enterprises like STC.
