Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was an Indian politician who served as a Member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of India from April 2008 till his death in October 2022.

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly from 2001 to 2016 and also served as the Minister of Home Affairs, Kerala from May 2006 to May 2011.
Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was an alumnus of the University College, Thiruvananthapuram of the University of Kerala and the Mahatma Gandhi Government Arts College, Mahé.

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was born in Kodiyeri, Malabar District, Madras, on November 16, 1953, and died in Apollo Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, on October 1, 2022, at the age of 68 years after battling cancer and multi-organ dysfunction.
The family of Kodiyeri Balakrishnan are yet to meet to plan for his funeral and in due time, his family will disclose his funeral plans.
Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was survived by his wife, S.R Vinodini, and his children called Bineesh Kodiyeri and Binoy Kodiyeri.
