Coach Rob Ambrose stated in a statement Monday that Young, a graduating senior, “passed away at home.” There was no official statement on the cause of death.

Ambrose described the Winston-Salem, North Carolina, native as a “rare and special soul” whose presence lit up the room.

“When he walked into a room or your life, the brilliance of that room, that moment, transformed,” the coach explained. “It changed when he smiled. Kobe’s smile shone brightly in our world. It was a smile that said he was sharing the sincerity and purity of his heart with you. “That smile is as warm as standing in the sun.”

Young had his most productive season in 2018, when he started all 12 games and finished second among Towson’s running backs with 72 carries, 455 rushing yards, and three touchdowns. He also had ten receptions for 54 yards and one touchdown, as well as five kick returns for 76 yards.
