While Mainoo was born in England, his heritage traces back to Ghana, as both his mother and father originate from the West African nation.

The young footballer reportedly visited his parents’ homeland in 2021 and enjoyed a memorable time reconnecting with his extended family members there.

Mainoo opted to represent England over Ghana when he accepted a call-up from Gareth Southgate for the March international friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

“Yeah, I mean, obviously, I’m proud of my Ghanaian heritage, both my parents being from there and my family. But being at England as well is an amazing opportunity and I’m enjoying it so far,” he said.
