Known for his iconic 1983 film ‘Kukurantumi: Road to Accra,’ King emphasized in an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z that government funds often fall short of meeting the substantial financial needs of film projects.
Highlighting the limited scope of government support for commercial productions, King stressed the importance of private investment due to the significant financial requirements involved.
He urged filmmakers to shift their mindset away from excessive reliance on government aid, citing the constraints of available funding and the need for a proactive approach to securing resources.

Drawing from his own experience, King revealed that he never sought financial assistance from the Ghanaian government for his films, instead securing support from entities like the European Union and the German government through individual efforts and project proposals.

He advised Ghanaian filmmakers to focus on developing compelling scripts that attract investors to ensure sustainable production.
While acknowledging the upcoming establishment of the Film Development Fund by the National Film Authority under Act 935, which will support feature films, television productions, and promote cultural values, King’s insights highlight the importance of diversifying funding sources and cultivating a culture of creativity and entrepreneurship within Ghana’s film industry.
