Kendrick Kang-Joh Jeong, better known as Ken Jeong, the renowned American stand-up comedian and actor, owes much of his success to his upbringing and the values instilled in him by his parents, D.K. and Young Jeong.

Born on July 13, 1969, in Detroit, Michigan, Ken Jeong is the son of South Korean immigrants who moved to North Carolina when he was just four years old.

Raised in Greensboro, North Carolina, Ken’s early years were shaped by the guidance and support of his parents.

Ken attended Walter Hines Page High School, where he excelled academically and actively participated in various extracurricular activities.

He showcased his intellectual prowess through his involvement in the regional quiz bowl and demonstrated leadership skills by being elected to the student council.

Additionally, Ken’s passion for music led him to play the violin in the school orchestra.

Despite his young age, Ken’s achievements did not go unnoticed. He graduated from high school in 1986 at the age of 16 and received Greensboro’s prestigious Youth of the Year award in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments.

Following high school, Ken embarked on his academic journey at Duke University, where he discovered his passion for acting.

Balancing his interest in drama with his pre-med coursework, Ken explored his creative side while preparing for a career in medicine.

After graduating from Duke in 1990, Ken pursued his medical education at the UNC School of Medicine, earning his M.D. in 1995.

However, even during his medical training, Ken’s love for acting remained strong. He spent the summer before medical school taking theater classes at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), fueling his desire to pursue a career in entertainment.

Throughout his life, Ken Jeong has credited his parents for instilling in him the values of hard work, determination, and resilience. Their unwavering support and encouragement have played a significant role in shaping Ken’s path to success as a comedian and actor.
