Born to Susanne Riwai and David Settle, Keala’s heritage reflects a mix of Māori descent from her mother’s side and British roots from her father.

Growing up as the eldest of five siblings, Keala initially aspired to follow in her mother’s footsteps as an R&B singer. Her early exposure to music, influenced by her mother’s own singing career, fueled her passion for the genre.

Keala even had the opportunity to showcase her talents as a backup singer for Gladys Knight in Las Vegas.

However, fate had other plans for Keala when she unexpectedly landed a role in the musical “Hairspray.”
