Katie Zelem started playing football when she was six years old. At the age of eight, she joined the Manchester United Girls’ Centre of Excellence.

On 30 September 2017, Katie Zelem made her first Serie A appearance as a substitute in the club’s inaugural match, a 3–0 win at Atalanta.
