The incident reportedly went viral on social media, and Porter stated that the moment was more than just a photo op and that she was reading the book. The book is about coping with bad situations in order to be happy.

Katie Porter previously represented the 45th congressional district from 2019 to 2023.Katie Porter is the first Democrat elected to represent California’s 45th congressional district in 2018.
In 2022, Katie Porter was re-elected in California’s newly redistricted 47th district. Additionally, Porter has announced her candidacy for United States Senate in 2024, seeking the seat currently held by Dianne Feinstein.
After her graduation, Katie Porter worked as a law clerk for Judge Richard S. Arnold of the United States Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Katie Porter is also an active member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, where she holds the position of deputy chair.
