Kathleen Courtney Hochul is an American lawyer and politician serving as the 57th governor of New York since August 2021. She was born on August 27, 1958, in Buffalo, New York. She is the daughter of John P. Jack Courtney and Patricia Ann.

Kathy became politically active during her college years at Syracuse University, leading a boycott of the student’s bookstore over high prices and an unsuccessful effort to name the University stadium after alumnus running back and future NFL player, Ernie Davis.
After graduating from Law school, Kathy began working at Washington, DC law firm but found the work unsatisfying. She then worked as a legal counsel and legislative assistant to U.S representative John Lafalce and U.S Senator, Daniel Moynihan, and for the New York State Assembly before seeking elected office.
