Award-winning English novelist and journalist Kate Saunders died on April 21, 2023, at the age of 62, at her home in Archway, London.

Kate Saunders suffered from multiple sclerosis. Her health deteriorated in the years following her son’s death, but she continued to write until the end.
The news of her death was shared by her sister Louisa Saunders in a Twitter post. Sharing a link to an obituary of Saunders, she wrote: “My sister, who we lost last Friday. “The warmest, bravest, most generous and most brilliant woman I will ever know. Heaven knows how we will live without her.”

Following the news of Kate’s sad passing, tributes have flooded social media.
“Journalist Kate Saunders who was on Paul Merton’s team in the first-ever HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU in September 1990 has died at the age of 62. So sad to hear,” one fan tweeted.
Kate Saunders the Costa Children’s Book Award in 2014 for her book Five Children on the Western Front and was twice shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal.
She was also known for television appearances with roles in the sitcom Only Fools and Horses and various BBC arts programmes. Along with comedian Sandi Toksvig, she appeared as a guest on the first episode of the topical news comedy show Have I Got News For You.
