Born in New York City, New York, on December 23, 1937, Karol Bobko is a well-known astronaut. As an astronaut who participated in the 1975 Apollo-Soyuz Test Project, a voyage onboard the Space Shuttle Discovery in 1985, and a mission for the United States Department of Defense in the Space Shuttle Atlantis in 1985, Karol is also well known.

In addition, he was the first pilot to successfully complete a mission on the Space Shuttle Challenger before it was destroyed in an accident in 1983.
