Karli Payne, an incoming eighth-grade pitcher/third-baseman at St. Pius X High School in Crystal City, Missouri, and a member of Doug Clark’s Louisville Slugger 14U club team, was seriously injured Thursday, June 30 night when she was hit by a car after a fireworks display at her high school.

Karli was walking home with her mother after the fireworks display when she was hit in an intersection, according to Crystal City Police Capt. Mike Pruneau.
He stated that the girl had suffered from head trauma and was receiving treatment at the hospital. However, Karli died as a result of her injuries on Monday, July 4th.

Coach Clark, who leads two teams for the Louisville Sluggers, one at the 14U level and the other at 16U, described young Karli as “an unbelievable hitter who is hard-nosed and never says stop.”
Karli and her family have set up a GoFundMe page with the goal of raising $100,000 to help with medical expenses.
