Oxford United’s dismal play, which included only one point from eight League One games, led to the firing of head coach Karl Robinson. They are now in 17th place in the standings, five points above League One’s relegation zone, after being thrashed 3-0 at home by Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Robinson has been in charge of Oxford for almost five years. He had previously managed MK Dons and Charlton Athletic.

Craig Short, Leon Blackmore-Such, and Wayne Brown, the club’s coaches, have been given provisional leadership. In a statement, the team thanked Robinson for his contributions while he was a member of the squad but stated that his departure was due to recent performances and outcomes.

Oxford made the League One playoffs in each of the two seasons that Robinson was in charge, however, they fell to Wycombe Wanderers in the final in 2020 and to Blackpool in the semifinals the following year. Under Robinson, the squad has only won three of their previous 16 league contests.

Tim Williams, the team’s chief executive, had voiced dissatisfaction with the team’s performance and underlined the need for improvement prior to the match against Bristol Rovers. Robinson acknowledged the negative feedback that followed the loss, saying that it was to be anticipated.
