Karen Barber and Nicky Slater represented Great Britain at the 1980 Winter Olympics, placing 12th, and at the 1984 Winter Olympics, where they placed 6th.

Karen Barber has since retired from competitive skating and ventured into working as a coach and skater professionally.

From 2006, Karen Barber served as a judge on Dancing On Ice, until 2011. In 2011, Karen Barber was moved into the role of the head coach where she remained for the 2011 and 2012 series.
