Kara Young was born in San Francisco, California, to Belizean Parents, Maria and Thomas Young. Her mother is of Belizean creole descent, her father is of Belizean creole and Scottish descent.

According to Young’s company website, between 1988 and 1998, she appeared in advertising companies for Revlon, L’Oreal, Clairol, and Maybelline, as well as Victoria’s Secret and was photographed by Richard Avedon for the “Most Unforgettable Women” campaign.
