A Kalamazoo man is in jail after hitting a pedestrian early Saturday, August 27 2022 morning.

The hit-and-run occurred around 2:30 p.m. on West Michigan Avenue in Kalamazoo. Police say they discovered a 21-year-old pedestrian in the road.
Officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to reports of a car crash in the 2700 Block of West Michigan Avenue.

Officers are said to have given the victim, a 21-year-old Illinois resident, immediate medical attention before transporting him to a nearby hospital.
The 22-year-old driver who was involved in the accident fled the scene. However, Officers were able to contact and locate the involved motorist at a residence in Kalamazoo a short time later, according to police.
The driver, a 22-year-old Kalamazoo resident, is still being held at the Kalamazoo County Jail. Police believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol and are seeking related charges. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is still investigating the incident.
