Life at the Bed and Breakfast:

Julian’s formative years unfolded in a Bed and Breakfast hotel, a venture passionately run by his mother, Pam, for an impressive four decades. This family establishment, situated in the former village of Lexden, now a suburb of Colchester, provided a unique backdrop for Julian’s upbringing. The Bed and Breakfast became a melting pot of diverse backgrounds and nationalities, as guests from far and wide added to the rich tapestry of experiences that shaped Julian’s worldview.

Cliff Hudson: The Mechanical Engineer and Technical Director:

On the other side of Julian’s familial equation was his father, Cliff Hudson. A mechanical engineer by profession, Cliff held the position of technical director at E H Bentall & Co in the village of Heybridge, situated in the Maldon District of Essex. His career frequently took him abroad, showcasing a commitment to his profession and a willingness to explore opportunities beyond the English shores.

In the Footsteps of Heritage:

While Pam and Cliff Hudson pursued their respective careers, their Bed and Breakfast served as more than just a business. It became a haven for encounters with people from varied walks of life, fostering in Julian a conversational style that would later become a hallmark of his television presentation.
