Since 2009, Juan Merchan has served as an acting justice for the California Supreme Court.

Also, he ruled over Allen Weisselberg’s trial as the former CFO of the Trump Organization.
Merchan has been a judge for 16 years after beginning his career as an assistant district attorney in Manhattan.
Before being appointed to the Bronx Family Court bench in 2006, Juan was employed by the State Attorney General’s office.
Merchan, according to the New York Times, was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and immigrated to the United States when he was 6 years old.
Merchan grew up in Jackson Heights, Queens.
