Joy McKean cause of death – Joy McKean, the Australian singer-songwriter and country music scene builder who, with her late husband, Slim Dusty, forged one of our country’s great creative collaborations, died on Thursday (May 25) at the age of 93, after a lengthy struggle with cancer.

McKean, who was born on January 14, 1930, had a career spanning more than 70 years and wrote some of the genre’s most celebrated songs, including “The Biggest Disappointment,” “Ringer from the Top End,” “Walk a Country Mile,” “Indian Pacific,” and “Lights on the Hill,” an award-winning hit for her husband Slim Dusty, whom she married in 1951.
McKean was his wife and manager for more than 50 years and she helped him achieve nationwide success with the Slim Dusty Travelling Show.

McKean’s musical collaboration with Dusty resulted in over 100 albums, 45 Golden Guitars, and over 8 million overall sales.
McKean has received six Golden Guitars, Australia’s finest country music award, and was a popular Tamworth performer.
McKean founded the Tamworth Country Music Festival and the Country Music Association of Australia, and she was honored for her lifetime achievements at the 2019 Australian Women in Music Awards.
In honor of her 90th birthday, a sold-out event at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2020 featured Paul Kelly and Troy Cassar-Daley.
Her children, Anne and David Kirkpatrick survive her.
