Joy McKean age: What age is Joy McKean? – Joy McKean, an Australian country music star and Slim Dusty’s widow died at the age of 93 after a long battle with cancer. McKean, born Mildred Geraldine Joy Kirkpatrick on January 14, 1930, was an Australian country music singer-songwriter and Slim Dusty’s wife and manager.

McKean was born in Singleton, Hunter District, New South Wales, and spent her childhood on her mother’s family’s dairy farm.

McKean had polio as a child and was treated in Sydney by the well-known Sister Kenny.

McKean began playing the accordion, piano, and steel guitar at an early age.

Around the age of ten, she made her first radio appearance on Sydney’s 2GB radio station.

McKean, then 18, was performing live with her sister Heather on their own half-hour Saturday radio show as the McKean Sisters, known for their yodeling harmonies, on 2KY in the 1940s.

McKean was Dusty’s wife and manager for over 50 years, during which time she produced a massively successful body of work.

Dusty and McKean had two children, Anne and David Kirkpatrick, both of whom are skilled singer-songwriters.

In 1964, the family began annual round-Australia excursions, which included a 30,000-mile, 10-month journey that became the subject of a feature film, The Slim Dusty Movie, in 1984.

Dusty died on September 19, 2003, at the age of 76, at his home in St Ives, New South Wales, after a long fight with lung and kidney cancer.
