Josephine Tewson, who appeared in sitcoms such as Keeping Up Appearances and Last of the Summer Wine, passed away on August 18, 2022, at Denville Hall, a London retirement home for actors at the age of 91.

In a statement, her agent Jean Diamond said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Josephine Tewson.
“Josephine passed away peacefully last night at Denville Hall at the age of 91.” The cause of death was not disclosed.

Tewson portrayed a nanny in a 30-second commercial for Nabisco Fruit Newtons that aired in the United States in 1997.

During the late 1980s and early 1990s, she also portrayed a schoolteacher in a Sugar Puffs “I Want My Honey” commercial.
Tewson was best known for her role as Elizabeth, Hyacinth Bucket’s nervous next-door neighbour on Keeping Up Appearances from 1990 to 1995.
Her other sitcoms included Shelley with Hywel Bennett and No Appointment Necessary with Roy Kinnear. She also collaborated with Ronnie Barker, Charlie Drake, and Dick Emery.
