Joseph IV Manchin operates Enersystems Inc. – a solar energy company that focuses on the production and implementation of solutions and services for the consumption of energy. It was founded by his father during the 1980s.

Joseph IV’s father Joe Manchin is an American politician and businessman serving as the senior United States senator from West Virginia, a seat he has held since 2010. A member of the Democratic Party, Manchin was the 34th governor of West Virginia from 2005 to 2010 and the 27th secretary of state of West Virginia from 2001 to 2005. He became the state’s senior U.S. senator when Jay Rockefeller retired in 2015.

His mother Gayle Heather Conelly is an American educator and government official who was the First Lady of West Virginia from 2005 to 2010 and is the current Federal Co-Chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission.

She previously served as the president of the West Virginia Board of Education from 2013 to 2014 and West Virginia Secretary of Education and the Arts from 2017 until her termination in March 2018.

Joseph IV Manchin has two siblings; Heather Manchin Bresch and Brooke Manchin.
