José Kohn: Who Is Irene Papas’ Second Husband?

José Kohn was the second husband of Irene Papas, a Greek singer and actress best known for appearing in the films “Zorba the Greek,” “The Guns of Navarone” and countless Greek tragedies.

Kohn, a film producer and Papas got married in 1957, six years after the latter’s divorce from her first husband Alkis Papas.

However, Kohn and Papas’ marriage didn’t stand the test of time and it was later annulled.

 

Sadly, Irene Papas has died. She died on Wed. Sept 14. 2022 at age 96, eleven days after celebrating her 96th birthday and 65 years after her marriage to Jose Kohn.

Born Eirini Lelekou on Sept. 3, 1926, in Chiliomodi, Greece, and raised in Athens, Papas starred in more than 70 films during her storied 50-year career.

Her breakout role came in the 1961 war film “The Guns of Navarone” alongside the likes of Gregory Peck, David Niven and Anthony Quinn.

She played a World War II resistance fighter named Maria Pappadimos, who made the difficult decision to shoot an unarmed woman because she was working with the Nazis.
