Joran Vliegen was born on July 7, 1993, in Maaseik, Belgium to Ivo Vliegen and Annick Desender. He began playing tennis when he was five years old and grew up along with a brother named Warre.
Joran Vliegen played college tennis at East Carolina University after initially relocating to the United States in 2011. There he pursued his undergraduate and graduate degrees in business. He was named 2014 Conference USA Player of the Year.
Joran Vliegen earned a career-high ATP doubles rating of World No. 28 on June 14, 2021. He also attained a career-high singles ranking of World No. 508 on August 1, 2016. He won two ITF Men’s Circuit singles titles but now focuses on doubles.

Joran Vliegen and partner Sander Gillé have won five ATP tour doubles titles. Vliegen made his Grand Slam debut at the French Open in 2019. He made it to the quarterfinals with the help of Kazakhstan’s Mikhail Kukushkin.

Joran Vliegen made his Wimbledon debut in a mixed doubles category, reaching the third round alongside China’s Zheng Saisai. He and fellow Belgian Sander Gillé won their first ATP Tour doubles victory at the 2019 Swedish Open. He won the Swiss Open the same year, again playing with Gillé.
