Van der Sloot, who stands 1.95m / 195cm / 6.39 ft, is also the leading suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Natalee Holloway.
Van der Sloot is currently serving a 28-year jail sentence in Peru for bludgeoning Stephany Flores Ramrez to death five years after Holloway went missing.
Holloway, then 18, was visiting Aruba as part of a high school trip in 2005. She did not make her return flight, and it was discovered that she was missing.

She was last seen with van der Sloot and two other locals. They claimed they had no idea what had happened to her, but were detained multiple times in connection with the case. Due to a lack of evidence, no one was legally charged with Holloway’s death.
Both the Holloway and Flores cases received extensive media coverage; Time magazine named Van der Sloot’s arrest the top crime story of 2010.
Holloway’s disappearance remains unsolved.
From behind bars, Van der Sloot was the topic of international press attention, sparking controversies that resulted in the investigation and suspension of numerous Peruvian authorities.
