Johnie Cooks cause of death – Johnie Cooks, a linebacker who starred at Mississippi State before going on to a 10-year NFL career, died on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at the age of 64. His death was confirmed by Colts owner Jim Irsay via Twitter, saying: ‘Rest in peace, Johnie Cooks’.

A cause of death has not yet been given but Starkville Daily News said that he was facing some health issues — which was not specified.
Cooks was a defensive standout at Mississippi State, where he was inducted into the Davis Wade Stadium Ring of Honor. Cooks and D.D. Lewis are widely regarded as the best Bulldog linebackers in history.

Cooks was selected second overall by the Baltimore Colts in 1982, and he won all-rookie accolades in his first season.
Throughout seven seasons with the Colts, he appeared in 83 games with 74 starts, shifting to outside linebacker in 1984 and recording 11.5 sacks.
During the 1988 season, the Colts released him, and the Giants signed him.
Cooks’ move to the Giants proved to be a very timely one as he won a Super Bowl with the Giants in 1991.
Cooks ended his career in Cleveland, retiring after the 1991 season.
