Phyllis Ann George] was an American businesswoman, actress, and sportscaster. She was the wife of John Young Brown Jr., an American politician, entrepreneur, and businessman from the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

She had two children with Brown during their marriage: Lincoln Tyler George Brown and Pamela Ashley Brown. She was also Kentucky’s First Lady from 1979 to 1983.
In 1975, George was hired as a reporter and co-host of the CBS Sports pre-show The NFL Today, making her one of the first women in national televised sports broadcasting.
she was crowned Miss Texas in 1970 and Miss America in 1971. Throughout her year as Miss America, George appeared on a variety of talk shows, including three appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
George died on May 14, 2020, at the age of 70, of complications from polycythemia vera, a blood cancer, at the Albert B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

John Y. Brown Jr., died on November 22,2022. He was 88. He had been dealing with health complications derived from COVID-19 since the summer.
Brown’s children confirmed his death in a statement, calling him a “true Kentucky original who beamed with pride for his home state and its people.”
