John Paul Monahan Colon Cancer: When was Jay Monahan diagnosed with cancer?

John Paul Monahan was diagnosed with cancer in 1997. Although he was diagnosed with the disease, he continued to work, covering the Unabomber trial. He underwent surgery for cancer of the colon in June, The Associated Press reported.

Katie Couric had become a spokeswoman for colon cancer awareness ever since her first husband died from the disease.

She underwent colonoscopy on-air in March 2000, and according to a study published in 2003, in the Archives of Internal Medicine, may have inspired many others to get checked as well.

In 2011, Katie became the Honorary guest at the 2004 Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation fall gala. As the Guest of Honor for the inaugural American cancer society Discover Ball, Couric was recognised for her leadership in increasing cancer awareness and screening.
