Who Was John P. Varkey?

John P. Varkey was an Indian guitarist, songwriter and composer, born in Thrissur, India.

Varkey attended the Trinity College of Music in London, where he studied music and learnt how to play the guitar.

He began his career as a music composer in the movie industry and came to limelight after he composed the songs in the Indian drama Frozen, in 2007.

The film had won him the award of the best music in the Madrid Imagine India Film Festival.

Varkey has composed music for several films across industries and shows. One of them is the soundtrack for the Malaysian films Kammattippadam, Eada, Unnam, and Olipporu.

He also composed for the Telugu movie Idi Sangathi and Kannada film Karthik.

Varkey composed over 50 songs for different films and played with the Thrissur-based band Slowpedalers.

Varkey passed away after suffering from a heart attack, on August 29, 2022. He was aged 52.
