Mahama aims to reallocate funds towards more economically viable ventures to bolster state revenues.

He argues that strategic economic policymaking is crucial amidst current economic challenges, emphasizing the need to reduce government spending.

Critiquing the incumbent government’s approach, Mahama stated, “This government has made numerous errors leading to our current crisis, yet they refuse to reduce expenditure. In times of crisis, cutting expenditure and increasing revenue are essential.”

“We will eliminate all these wasteful projects like One Village-One Dam, which have cost billions, and redirect those funds into sectors that can stimulate economic growth, such as Planting for Food and Jobs,” Mahama added.

In contrast, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who seeks to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, defended their administration’s economic management during Eid-ul-Adha prayers on June 16.

He highlighted global challenges impacting economies and noted Ghana’s progress towards recovery despite setbacks.

The Finance Ministry has reported significant reductions in general expenditure amidst economic difficulties, with a total budget allocation of GH₵259 billion.

Calls have been made for the government to streamline expenditure by reducing the size of government and focusing on prioritized policies amidst ongoing economic challenges.
