John Lydon Coma: How long was John Lydon in a coma?

English singer, John Lydon once shared a very difficult moment he went through when he was very young. He disclosed that he went into a coma after contracting spinal meningitis, and lost his memory after he woke up. He reportedly spent seven (7) months in a coma.

I didn’t know who I was, my parents. I couldn’t hold a spoon. I woke I’d lost my memory. I didn’t recognize my parents, but had to trust them because I had nowhere else to go,” he said.

He added that he had to recover through anger, which gradually became a pivotal element in his artistry. According to him, returning to school was very challenging as he got called several funny names like “Johnny Dum Dum” by his peers. Therefore, he moved away from them and spent time alone in libraries, devouring literary classics to help him learn words he could use in his defense.

At age 20, he became a very talented artist who served as the lead singer of punk rock band, Sex Pistols.
