John L. Scott Jr. was an American politician and member of the Democratic Party. John L. Scott Jr. and his wife Joan Crouch and had one child, John III.

John L. Scott Jr died Sunday, August 13 at the age of 69 after a stint in the hospital. He had been at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, since Friday, August 11 when he was hospitalized for blood clot issues.
In a statement released by Senate President Thomas Alexander, Scott’s family said he “passed away peaceably while surrounded by family and close friends.”

Scott, a Columbia Democrat, ran a real estate firm and has been a member of the Legislature for more than 30 years, most recently sitting on the Senate’s judiciary, medical affairs, and penology committees.
He was first elected to the state House in 1990, then to the Senate in 2008, and he was up for reelection next year. In the 2020 general election, he ran unopposed.
