Force was born to Harold and Betty Ruth Force in the Los Angeles suburb of Bell Gardens, California.

As a child, he lived in logging camps, Indian reservations, migrant farms, and trailer parks. He survived childhood polio with the therapy and perseverance of his mother and family.

He owns and drives for John Force Racing. He is one of the most dominant drag racers in the sport with 155 career victories.
