Since 2005, John Fisher has been the Athletics’ owner. He bought the franchise along with businessman Lewis Wolff, with Fisher taking on the role of managing general partner. When Wolff sold his remaining interests in the team in 2016, Fisher became the sole owner.

Fisher, the eldest child of the Gap clothing store founders, inherited the family fortune and later rose to the position of chief executive of an investment management firm before entering the world of sports ownership.

He has stock in the Scottish soccer team Celtic F.C. and the Major League Soccer team San Jose Earthquakes. Since Fisher became manager, the A’s position hasn’t exactly been dire. In the nine years from 2012 to 2020, Oakland made the playoffs six times, though October success was infrequent during that time.

Jewish Fisher has two brothers named William S. and Robert J. Fisher. The youngest of the three sons of Doris and Donald Fisher, the founders of Gap, is John Fisher.
In October 2018, he was added to the Gap board of directors. Robert and William, two of his brothers, are board members as well.
John serves on the board of the Silicon Schools Fund and is a founding partner of the investment firm Sansome Partners.
