Joe Tilson wife: Meet the artist Joslyn Morton

Joslyn Morton is an artist, and the wife of late artist Joe Tilson.

Joslyn was born in 1934.

The couple met in Italy, and together they shared a studio at Casa Frollo on the Giudecca in Venice.

They got married in 1956, and had went on to have three children – Anna, Jake and Sophy.

An integral figure in the 1960s Pop Art movement, Tilson’s creative brilliance spanned paintings, prints, and constructions that resonated globally.

In a pivotal moment in 1972, Tilson embarked on a transformative exploration of materials, crafting the mesmerizing body of work known as Alchera.

This groundbreaking approach aimed to transcend temporal and cultural boundaries, drawing inspiration from pre-Classical mythology.

Tilson’s artistic journey reverberated on the international stage, marked by solo exhibitions in prestigious venues like Cortona Centro Culturale Fontanella Borghese, Plymouth City Museum, and Palazzo Pubblico in Siena.

As a Royal Academician, Tilson’s legacy culminated in a celebrated retrospective exhibition in 2002 at the Royal Academy, titled ‘Joe Tilson: Pop to Present.’

On November 9, 2023, Joe Tilson passed away at the age of 95.
