This is on the backdrop of a contract he recently signed on August 1, 2022. The bPadres announced they signed Musgrove to a five-year contract extension, worth $100 million.

Musgrove joined the Padres on January 19, 2021, after being traded by the Pirates in a three team trade that sent David Bednar, Omar Cruz, Drake Fellows, Hudson Head, and Endy Rodríguez to the Pirates and Joey Lucchesi to the New York Mets.

He threw 77 of 112 pitches for strikes and struck out 10 batters; a fourth-inning hit by pitch to Joey Gallo prevented Musgrove from achieving a perfect game.

In 2021, Musgrove posted an 11–9 record with a 3.18 ERA and 203 strikeouts in 181+1⁄3 innings. He led the Padres’ starting rotation in wins, ERA and strikeouts.

On Oct. 9, 2022, Musgrove became the first pitcher in postseason history to allow two hits or fewer, pitching seven or more innings in a winner-take-all game.

He allowed one hit in seven innings with five strikeouts and one walk, throwing 59 of 86 pitches for strikes.
