Joe Kapp was an American football player, coach, and executive. Joe Kapp was the father of four adult children.

Joe Kapp’s oldest son J. J. Kapp worked as a trial attorney for the Santa Clara County (CA) Public Defender’s Office after receiving his bachelor of arts from Chico State University and his JD from Santa Clara University from 1990 to 2017.
Will, his son, played fullback at Los Gatos High School, then as a walk-on at Cal, started at fullback as a senior, and was named Most Inspirational for his special teams play.
Frank Kapp, Joe Kapp’s grandson, was a redshirt freshman for the Cal Bears in 2016, the same year Joe Kapp was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
Joe Kapp died at the age of 85 on May 8th, 2023. Joe Kapp was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in February 2016, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Joe Kapp is a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame, the Wall of Fame of the BC Lions, the College Football Hall of Fame, and the University of California Athletic Hall of Fame.
Kapp was named to the Honour Roll of the CFL’s top 50 players of the modern era by Canadian sports network TSN in November 2006.
