Joe Elmore, the iconic host of NPT’s ‘Tennessee Crossroads,’ passed away on 17 June 2024 at the age of 80 after battling a prolonged illness, Nashville Public Television confirmed.

Elmore, known for his 37-year tenure on the show, which took viewers across Tennessee’s small towns and unique locales, left a lasting impact on both his colleagues and audiences alike.
Ed Jones, his longtime executive producer, expressed deep sorrow at the loss of a “legend and a dear friend,” highlighting Elmore’s exceptional skills, kind-hearted nature, and delightful sense of humor that made ‘Tennessee Crossroads’ a cherished program.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, the show’s producers assured fans that ‘Tennessee Crossroads’ would continue in the spirit that Elmore had fostered, committed to showcasing the state’s diverse and captivating stories.
Described by co-workers as a gentle and consummate professional, Elmore was revered for his ability to uncover hidden gems across Tennessee, offering viewers a glimpse into the state’s lesser-known charms.

Laura Faber, a producer who worked closely with Elmore, fondly remembered him as “a comfortable soul” and “the best storyteller.”

Bob Mueller, a veteran Nashville news anchor, hailed Elmore as “a legend in local broadcasting,” underscoring his significant contributions to television in Tennessee.
Elmore’s career spanned from Memphis, where he started as a weekend reporter and anchor, to his pivotal role co-hosting “PM Magazine” at WHBQ.
His dedication to television earned him induction into the Nashville/Midsouth chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Silver Circle in 2014, recognizing his outstanding service to the industry.
Joe Elmore is survived by his daughter Lily Elmore of Boston, sons Chris Elmore of Jonesboro and Bobby Elmore of Orlando, Florida, sister Beth Elmore of Nashville, and former wife Afsoon Elmore of Orlando.
