Jockey Dean Holland Cause Of Death

Dean Holland, a Group 1-winning jockey, died after a sickening race fall in country Victoria, in a tragedy that stunned the racing world on Monday, April 24 2023.

The 34-year-old was riding Tony McEvoy’s gelding Headingley in the first race at Donald, 280 kilometres north-west of Melbourne when he was involved in a sickening fall.

When the three-year-old gelding moved sharply to the inside rail before falling as the field turned for home at the top of the straight, Holland was thrown to the turf.

Jockey Dean Holland was treated on the flight before being airlifted to a Melbourne hospital in critical condition.

Just after 4 p.m., Victoria Police confirmed his death. He is survived by his wife and four children. Following the death of a jockey in Donald, police will prepare a report for the coroner, according to a police statement.

‘Around 1.30 pm, the male was riding in a race at a track on Racecourse Road when he fell. He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.
