He was born on July 10, 1993, in Příbram, Czechia to Jiri Veselý Sr. and Irena Veselý.

He began playing tennis on his own at home against the wall after watching his father, Jiri, a tennis coach, play at age 4.
Veselý turned pro in 2009 and became the No. 1 junior combined world ranking in January 2011, compiling a singles win-loss record of 125–45.
He made his Davis Cup debut for the Czech Republic in February 2013 and won nine singles titles on the ITF Futures circuit and three Challengers. Veselý emerged as the youngest player in the Top 100 in that season.

The 28-year-old Vesely has a career-high ATP singles ranking of No. 35 and 94 in doubles.
Vesely subsequently advanced to Wimbledon 4R in 2016 and 2018, losing a 5-setter to his idol and countryman Tomáš Berdych in 2016.
In the 2022 Dubai Tennis Championships, he defeated Denis Shapovalov in three sets to reach his first ATP 500 final claiming his third top-20 win in the tournament. As a result, he moved 50 positions up in the rankings.
Jiří Veselý has been married to Denisa Veselá since 2017 and together they share two children; Sofie and Patrik.
