Former Hibs striker Jimmy O’Rourke, who scored 122 goals in 325 games for the club has died. Born on 18 September, 1946, O’Rourke passed away on 15 November, 2022 at age 76.

Hibs shared the devastating news of O’Rourke’s passing on Tuesday morning, offering up tributes to the former player, who was a key component in the famous Hibs side of the 1970s dubbed “Turnbull’s Tornadoes”.

None of the tabloids have reported on O’Rourke’s wife hence his marital status is unknown.

O’Rourke, scored 122 goals in 325 appearances, including the winner in Hibs’ 1972 League Cup final victory and a brace in the famous 7-0 derby demolition of Hearts at Tynecastle.

Despite his invaluable contribution to the success of Hibs, O’Rourke was controversially forced out and was transferred to St Johnstone in 1974 to make way for Joe Harper, who had been brought in from Everton, for a huge transfer fee.

O’Rourke has his name in Hibs’ history books, having made his debut at 16 and remaining the club’s youngest player until 2004 when Jamie McCluskey made his first team debut.

O’Rourke still holds the record for youngest goalscorer at 16 years and 88 days old.

O’Rourke later played for Motherwell before returning to Easter Road as an assistant coach to Eddie Turnbull.
