Jim Owens was at the forefront of bringing country music into a new era of entertainment television programming.

Born in South Carolina on Aug. 27, 1937, Owens was trained in New York and went on to be one of the most influential TV producers of all time.

His first foray into national syndication came in 1977 when he created and produced A Concert Behind Prison Walls with Johnny Cash, Linda Ronstadt, and Roy Clark.
