Who Is Jim Larranaga?

Jim Larrañaga is a professional basketball coach who currently leads the men’s basketball team at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.

Born on October 2, 1949, in New York, Jim’s playing career saw him make notable records, beginning with Providence College, where he served as senior captain.

He had led Providence to a 20–8 record and finished as its fifth all-time leading scorer with 1,258 points.

Jim was later drafted by the Detroit Pistons in 1971, in the sixth round of the NBA draft.

Without spending much time in the NBA, Jim began coaching the first year students at Davidson College, and helped the team win three regular-season Southern Conference titles and the NIT once.

Jim went on to coach many other clubs and schools including the University of Miami, American International College, Bowling Green State University, and George Mason University.

When he coached the Patriots, the team recorded back-to-back victories in 13 consecutive seasons.

Jim has won many awards as coach of the year and more than 700 games as a head coach.
